There have been many studies conducted on the health benefits of chocolate and they are coming back with sweet findings!
Bill Ward summarizes them nicely in his article, "Some Tasty News About Chocolate" found on Minneapolis's StarTribune website.
It can improve blood flow, might reduce the risk of strokes, reduces risk of heart disease, improves cognition in "older" people, and could increase longevity.
They are suggesting that you pair your chocolate with something else that provides good health benefits, like nuts, and avoid chocolate combined with too much fat or "sugar-laden additives," like caramel.

We are in love with customized anything and everything. It's a precious attribute that is too often lacking in our business and personal interactions. You could often hear us talk at lunch about area businesses that delivered (or didn't measure up to) the customer service we desire ourselves. We really respect it.
So, when the doctors were introduced to a company that takes a typically unpleasant idea for women and customizes it for a woman's specific body measurements, needless-to-say, we wanted to share. Plus, with the nature of Renaissance Plastic Surgery, we are kind of in the business of altering measurements. And, having personalized attire for custom-designed measurements is priceless!
Lori Coulture made-to-order swimwear has taken the dreaded swimsuit shopping experience and created a healthier, happier experience for you. In just 2-3 short weeks, Lori Coulture will tailor-make a TrueMeasure swimsuit based on your body shape (and they understand body shapes), your style preferences (over 40 different fabrics and swimwear ideas), and precise measurements from the digital body scanner that records 140 measurements of your body ... a 3D body imaging machine. Now this has got to be the best way to use a 3D body imaging machine, ... well, outside of the VECTRA XT 3D Imaging we use here...of course!

Did you catch yesterday's episode of The Doctors which featured the Sciton, a laser resurfacing technique? Dr. Adam Scheiner demostrated the use of the Sciton TRL Laser for lower eyelid concerns, puffiness or bags.
Anne Strate, BSN, RN, one of our skin care specialists, talks more about her experience for lower eyelid treatment with the Sciton TRL Laser, which, here at Renaissance Plastic Surgery and R medical spa, we have been using for more than 8 years.
"Erbium resurfacing is one of the gold standards in cosmetic non-surgical treatments for tightening and eliminating wrinkles and reversing the signs of sun damage. The Sciton TRL laser allows us to customize the depth of treatment to fit the patients available downtime and desired outcome. One of the most amazing results we have seen lately is with lower eyelid resurfacing.
Many people have a loss of elasticity or “snap” to the lower eyelids and fine lines that can not be treated with things such as Botox. For the longest time all we had to treat this was a lower eyelid surgery. We have some people though that aren’t quite ready for surgery or the laxity of the skin is not severe enough for surgery yet. Having a non surgical laser treatment that yields significant tightening has “bought some time” for these patients.
This treatment has about 1 week of social downtime. The treated area appears red, like a sunburn, and requires ointment to be applied for the first few days after treatment. There is very little to no pain, although swelling can be significant the first few days after the treatment.
Any residual redness can be covered with makeup approximately 1 week post treatment. Patients can see an immediate tightening and less wrinkles after one treatment and results continue to improve, even up to six months, due to the increased collagen production in the area."

Zerona is the first non-invasive, non-surgical, aesthetic laser device to receive FDA market clearance in the U.S. for reduction of inches from the waist, hips and thighs. This approval comes following a study conducted to determine the effectiveness of the Zerona laser technology. The findings of the study indicated that patients had an average loss of 3.65 inches combined from the waist, hips and thighs.

The Star in Toronto, Canada featured this article about a family practitioner, Dr. Behnaz Yazdanfar, in Canada who was facing charges on July 24 in the death of a woman who had liposuction performed by Yazdanfar. Several questions of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario are being brought to the forefront by the high-profile death. One of these questions is: what are acceptable levels of training for non-specialists. This means they are questioning the definition of the "professional" standards governing the increasing numbers of cosmetic physicians.
Very near the end of the article is this paragraph:
"Another key issue is the level of cosmetic medical training required for non-specialists conducting the procedures. Unlike plastic surgeons who must meet rigorous educational standards, cosmetic physicians like Yazdanfar, often general practitioners, undertake their own training regime."
That sounds very scary. They "undertake their own training regime."
In Florida, there was an article posted on Tampabay.com that refers to a rising concern among state officials about cosmetic surgery doctors and their limited training. Apparently a doctor who was board certified in family medicine "began to perform cosmetic procedures at his north Tampa practice ... after completing a three-day 'intensive, hands-on training course.'"
Would you want someone to build your house after a weekend course?
Here's what you need to know:
The title of Board Certified Plastic Surgeon indicates that the surgeon has received extensive training in one of the most rigorous specialty programs. The surgeon has trained for at least 6 years after medical school and passed the rigorous examinations required to earn board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Here are the FAQs on the ABPS website to find more information about what it means to be a board certified plastic surgeon. Not all doctors that are board certified have been certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Only board certified plastic surgeons use the word "plastic" in the description of their training. All other boards or training courses that do not require the same level of experience and examinations will have the word "cosmetic" in their description.
No matter where you choose to have cosmetic surgery, ask the physician if they are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. You can visit the link on the home page of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) website and click on “Is Your Doctor Board Certified” to check whether a doctor is board certified by any of the 24 ABMS Boards.
