Retin-A: Fountain Of Youth Or Just Hype?

Fountain_of_youth Are you tired of the broken promises made by the over-the-counter products to "visibly reduce the signs of aging" or to "outsmart your acne?"  Well, let's talk a little bit about why they let you down.  The issue is not always that they don't have ingredients that would work, instead it's about the concentration of these ingredients.  In reality, prescription strength products, found at your physician's office, will be the only products to have the effective concentration of the active ingredient.  Side note, since the concentration is higher, the amount you use is smaller - only about a drop the size of a pea is needed for your entire face.  One of these products is Retin-A.  So, why is it that Retin-A won't crush your hopes and how do we know that it's not hyped?

Retin-A is a prescription strength topical cream used for its anti-aging effects which include: minimizing pores, softening fine lines and wrinkles, and improving overall tone and texture of skin.  Retin-A is the active form of Vitamin A.  It has been deemed the "gold standard" in skin care by medical experts nationwide.  Cosmoceutical companies often claim their anti-aging products can give you miraculous results, but you can't always believe their hype.  So what sets Retin-A apart from all other anti-aging products?  Most products are only tested for safety.  Any benefits they may produce are not tested or confirmed in studies.  Retin-A has the research and clinical data to support its anti-aging claim.  The first report documenting the anti-aging effects of Retin-A was published in 1986 and conducted by Dr. Albert Klingman and colleagues.  His study concluded that there was an improvement of fine lines and overall skin appearance that occurred while using Retin-A.  Retin-A achieves this by accelerating the exfoliation of dead skin cells in the outermost layer of the skin while preventing collagen loss through the stimulation of new collagen production within the dermis layer of the skin.  But what does all this scientific mumbo-jumbo mean to us?  It means that topical Retin-A works to unclog pores, diminish pore size, improve fine lines and wrinkles, normalize oil production and improve overall tone and texture of the skin.  All this translates into a more youthful appearance.  So back to the question, fountain of youth or just hype? Look at the clinical studies and research conducted.  There is obviously no hype here!  Science doesn't lie.
