Permanent Makeup has both aesthetic and psychological applications. Women love waking up in the morning and looking like a makeup artist just finished applying that perfect eyeliner or lip color. But for many women, permanent makeup has even more meaning than just feeling pretty. It is a matter of regaining some sort of normality.
Besides lining the lids of the eyes and lips, medical permanent cosmetic application has been used to return eyebrows to the face of the chemotherapy or radiation patient. It has also been used to restore the color to a nipple and areola of a reconstructed breast for a breast cancer survivor. Yet, any application of permanent makeup has risks associated with the procedure.
Whether you are looking to add eyeliner or eyebrows, here are some guiding principles that you can use in an industry with little regulation and no requirement for an artistic background.
- Pre-sterilization of equipment, needles and supplies kept in a sanitary environment.
- New application needles for each client.
- The technician should wear gloves that are new for each client and changed during the procedure if necessary.
- Verify that the technician and the environment are clean and neat.
- The technician should be knowledgeable on OSHA standards and environmental safety requirements.
- Finally, ask to see the technician's previous work, about any artistic background, training or certifications and if the technician has had any medical training.
If these guidelines are met, your permanent cosmetics application should be completely safe and create the beauty you desire for the face, breast or body.
