The Truth About Mammograms

Breast The truth is.....well, the truth is, I've never had a mammogram and I need to get one. Every time I see my doctor he gives me the little sheet that says, "go here to get your mammogram" and I just have not done it. My excuse is that I don't have time and that since breast cancer does not run in my family I am probably safe for a few more years. But the real truth is, every woman past the age of 35 should have one and Mae, over at Word to your Mutha, candidly shares about her most recent "mom-o-gram".......

"Alright Muthas!  I need to get all bossy and demanding with you. Especially you old moms like me.  I want you to take your hands off the keyboard and grab those boo-bees.   It’s time for a self breast exam and it’s time for you to talk to your doctor about getting a mammogram.  Or in our case, a mom-o-gram."

Mae goes into great detail about the whole procedure she endured to make sure she is cancer free. For example, she explains how it really feels to have your breasts squished depending on where a woman is in her cycle and how to not wear deodorant to the exam because you may have to go back for another exam later. Her post is definitely encouraging to women, like me, who have never had a mammogram and ends with a fantastic poem written by a mammogram technologist that she found on the wall of her changing room. You simply must stop by and read of Mae's experience and go ahead and schedule that appointment...I know I am!

Thank you so much for posting this! I'm touched! Now I want every lady over 35 who reads this to get touched too. By the equipment at her nearest mammogram imaging center! Even tho my results came back iffy and gave me a big scare, I'm thrilled to report I went back for a second mammogram and everything is just fine. Peace of mind is worth the effort. And if not, the sooner they catch something, the better the chances for a good outcome.

Thanks again. I really appreciate you helping to spread the word.
